Want to stretch your sea legs? How about a walk in the park. Walk through cool forests, see beautiful Broughton Lake, walk on a "corduroy road" made of logs. The trail, an easy walking path, is less than two miles (one way) to Beaver Dam Lake. Done easily it should take you a couple of hours to complete. BC Forest Service has updated the picnic site and made trail improvements to Broughton Lake and Beaver Dam Lake.
Remember your walking shoes, or boots, some insect repellent, and your camera (with plenty of film). Don't forget to leave your troubles behind, you won't need them. You can get a map at the Greenway Sound Marine Resort office.
Start by taking your tender or dinghy from Greenway Sound Marine Resort to the recently updated "dinghy dock." You can start or finish your walk with a picnic. Plenty of picnic tables are available. Then start your hike by walking through the evergreen forests of Mt. Ick. You'll drop down to the creek, and be refreshed by coolness by the creek. Just shy of Broughton Lake you come to a fork in the trail, to the right is the trail to the Broughton Lake viewpoint. Take this short diversion for a beautiful view of the lake. Continue on the left fork to Broughton Lake. Make sure you register at the BC Forest Service box - we need your help to keep the trails and dock maintained. Broughton Lake water is dark from all the tannins. You can enjoy a refreshing swim, just be careful of all the floating and submerged logs. There is plenty of space to sun-bathe, take a nap, or have a quick snack.
If you continue on to Beaver Dam Lake, you'll notice that you are walking on a "corduroy road" made of logs. These corduroy roads were made by loggers to easily move the cut timber down the steep slopes, and provide for an easy path in rough country. As you hike up to Beaver Dam Lake, notice the beautiful views of Broughton Lake. Take your time, you shouldn't be in a hurry. At Beaver Dam lake sit and enjoy the stillness of the lake. Spanish moss hangs from the trees, and reflects in the dark tannic water. Take stock of the moment and realize you are a "million miles" from all the "hustle and bustle."
Hopefully you made reservations at the Greenway Sound Marine Resort restaurant, because that will be the "coup-de-grace" for an unforgetable day.
