2009 - Our 25th season "There is no more pleasant place on Earth than to be on your boat in the Broughton Islands."
Come on up! Greenway Sound Marine Resort will be OPEN and ready for you by June 1. Tom and Ann will be there. The fine moorage is open and power is on. Our superb fresh produce supplier is ready to stock our store. The airlines are all in operation. The Park is ready for you to explore, and the fishing looks good. Truly, there is no more pleasant place on Earth to be than on your boat in the Broughton Islands, B.C., Canada.
Lowest prices since 2005…believe it or not. Fuel prices and the exchange rate have both declined to 2005 levels, making your operating costs nearly HALF of last year. Even the GST sales tax has been reduced to 5%.
What’s so special about Greenway? The Moorage, at 2003 rates, has long, wide, red-carpeted docks for mooring, viewing, privacy, and walking. Your moorage includes subdued night lighting, unlimited fresh water with plenty for boat washing, clean restrooms, laundry and showers, and a great Park to explore. There is a fine store, with flown-in fresh produce and dairy. Your moorage includes garbage service and Wi-Fi.
What about the restaurant? The Greenway Restaurant IS RETURNING FOR 2009. Two fine chefs have been retained to cook for you. Ann will still be executive chef and among the three of them, some very fine cuisine artistry is sure to be forthcoming. They expect to be in operation sometime in mid June, just possibly by Father’s Day, the 21st. You only need to keep in touch on channel 66A (USA mode) for reservations. Lunch, too!
The PHONES are a MESS!!! Thanks to Telus, who disconnected our 250-974-7044 because it was analog and would not provide anything else that worked in our location, we have less than perfect phones. We do have one new system, based on the internet, which is Vancouver 604-629-9838. Also, our La Conner WA number 360-466-4751 should work.
It is possible you may not be able to reach us as dependably as in the past. USE VHF 66A (USA mode) or E-Mail: greenwaysound@seanet.com. It is hard to imagine that e-mail is more dependable than the phones, but it is true! For emergencies, call any Broughton area marina. We will call each other on the VHF radio, so call any of us. We all work together
Would you like to leave your boat and fly home? Greenway Sound Marine Resort is a great place to leave your boat while you fly home. We walk by it several dozen times a day, giving your boat a high level of surveillance. The power is on 24/7. You can leave a provision list with us for groceries to have for you when you return. We stock fresh produce and dairy through the season, and we can special-order goods for you if there is enough time.
NOW, in partnership with Kenmore Air, you get your last night of moorage FREE, if you leave your boat at Greenway Sound Marine Resort and fly home and back on Kenmore Air. This is in addition to the FREE nights you earn from Greenway in our extended moorage program.
Would you like to invite some guests aboard to see the Broughtons? Greenway Sound Marine Resort is an impressive place to start and end your guest’s visit. The most successful guest visit time is generally 4-5 days. Have them fly up to Greenway Sound Marine Resort, and you come in and pick them up. Then take them out for a tour around the Broughtons for a few days. On the last night, come to Greenway Sound Marine Resort for a farewell dinner. (They’ll buy!) Then see them off the next day on their floatplane. You will be sending them home with many wonderful lifetime memories.
Click here to go to our Air Connection section for flight information, links, and good routing for your guests and for yourselves. Call with questions. You can also click on the airplane to the left you'll "fly" to our Air Connections page non-stop.
PASSPORTS ARE NOW REQUIRED FOR EVERY PASSENGER TO the U.S. by AIR
Beginning June 1, 2009, vehicle passage into the US now requires new documentation, too.
One important TIP: VHF radio on 66A must be in the USA mode to operate properly in our area. There is also a Canada mode, but it is only 1 watt, and does not have the power necessary in the Broughtons. You will need the higher 25 watt power found in USA mode. International mode is for marine operators, and will not work at all. Use the USA mode.
Fuel prices in US and Canada are shown and updated monthly on Mark Bunzel’s web site www.fineedge.com. When prices wildly swing, some fuel docks get caught with a tank of high price fuel. Once they work through that tank, their next load might be the lowest in the area. Best advice is to ask your favorite dock before fueling as prices can change rapidly.
Some splendid NEW books are available. From Peter Vassilopoulos, the third and final book of his cruising series is ready. The new Cruising to Desolation Sound features the Discovery Islands, Desolation Sound, the Sunshine Coast and Princess Louisa Inlet. It is two books in one and is loaded with photos including lots of aerials as well as diagrams and interesting details. This book goes with North of Desolation Sound, which covers our area, and The Gulf Islands. Also his new Anchorages and Docks and Destinations are available. The third new book, published by Bob Hale, is Jennifer and James Hamilton’s spectacular Cruising the Secret Coast, which depicts in full color all sorts of unusual places to explore. They found some really fascinating, unknown, close-by bays and anchorages. All these fine books and many more titles will be available for you at Greenway Sound Marine Resort. News from the neighborhood. From Sullivan Bay, Chris and Debbie are installing new docks and electrical for the 2009 season. The restaurant, fuel dock, store and happy hour as well as the annual 4th of July bash are in full swing for the 2009 season. They are more than happy to welcome all boaters to Sullivan Bay!!
From Pierre’s at Echo Bay, Pierre is hard at work on continuing the renovations of Pierre’s at Echo Bay. He has torn down the old hotel (bat infested, etc.), another building that was on top of the hill and finished covering the fuel area and fishing cleaning. He is currently expanding the store and they are working on a new water system. They will again have weekly deliveries of produce and dairy, etc. The pigs have been ordered and the list of activities for the summer can be found on their website at www.pierresbay.com.
See you this summer. Tom & Ann Taylor
