Look it up. You will like it. It has all kinds of information for you, including airplane connections, cell phone coverage, the restaurant menu, moorage information, how to forward your mail, how to contact Greenway Sound Marine Resort, and a lot of other useful stuff. There are links to our neighbors, access to fishing information, and the airline websites. Thanks to Don Chase (M/V Independence) for a fine job.
FISHING RULES ARE THE SAME AS LAST YEAR...FOR NOW.
There have not been any changes in the fishing rules that we have heard. For now, plan on no Coho retention. All other species are open, with a few adjustments in limits. The red-yellow rockfish (snapper) is becoming endangered, and may have new rules this year to protect them. Check when you buy your licence. Barbless hooks are the rule.
Take a look at a splendid website put together by the Sportfishing Institute of B.C. It is www.sportfishing.bc.ca or access it on Greenways website link page. For the most current decisions from Dept. of Fisheries (DFO), go to Greenways website link page, and click on DFO. They post each days DFO activity on the web.GREENWAY RESTAURANT OPEN JUNE 15 to SEPT. 3.
Be sure to plan on dinner with your family and friends while in our area. Reservations are required, as we only have 40 seats. Call VHF ch. 73. The menu is posted on our website..www.greenwaysound.com. Also, come in for lunch from 11-2 for a fun, informal get-together. Then there are always the ice cream cones, espresso and take-out desserts.
Moorage open May 15 - Sept.15.CELL PHONE COVERAGE STILL THE SAME.
Our cell phone service supplier in our area is Telus (formerly B.C. Tel.) which is compatible with Airtouch from the U.S. Not much else will work. See our website on this subject. Our mountains complicate the issue.LOTS OF AIRPLANE NEWS...
This year has seen heavy increases in insurance for all air carriers. We regrettably must report that the Greenway Sounder flew into the history books, a victim of overwhelming insurance costs. It was simply too small to absorb the increases. Greenway is most grateful to Bob McMahon and John Kittelson of Puget Sound Seaplanes in American Lake, Lakewood, (Tacoma) WA for a job well done. They are available for charter. Call 253-582-3777 or 1-800-800-1650.
KENMORE Air is offering their splendid service again this summer, with no major changes. They always do such a fine job with their impeccable equipment and their professionalism. Leave Kenmore (N. Seattle) at 9:00; Leave Greenway 12:30.
NW SEAPLANES, another friend of Greenway, has service from Renton daily. There are some exciting new plans in the works, which will create more flexibility for flying in and out of Greenway than we have ever had. Keep in touch with NW Seaplanes or Greenway, if you plan SEA-TAC Connections, or a late afternoon departure from Greenway or Seattle. Call 1-800-690-0086 or watch Greenways website.
NORTH ISLAND AIR & MARINE is the new company in Port McNeill,
replacing Air Rainbow. Same fine staff and pilots. The new owner is Bruce Jackman, who owns the fuel dock in Port McNeill, along with the C.A.B. industrial parts store at the top of the ramp. Greenway Dinner flights will continue to be offered, along with sightseeing.AIR RAINBOW & VANCOUVER ISLAND AIR in Campbell River are both
flying from Campbell River to Greenway and back twice a day. PACIFIC COASTAL has added new flights this year which connect well from Vancouver. Check website.
Visit our Air Connections page to learn the most about flying to and from Greenway Sound Marine Resort.
You can also click on the airplane to the left you'll "fly" to our Air Connections page non-stop.HOW TO CHECK FUEL PRICES.
Although fuel prices have gone up everywhere, they dont seem as drastic up north. We encourage you to check with the fuel docks if it is a concern. Also be aware that some docks like Port McNeill add GST to the final total, whereas Sullivan Bay has traditionally included it in the price. It is 7%. Ask them.NEWS FROM THE NEIGHBORHOOD
It is with heavy heart that we must report that June Schulz of Jennis Bay had an accident, and passed away this winter. We all admired her tenacity for trying to put together a resort at Jennis Bay, only to have her main lodge
burn down a couple of years ago. June was a tremendous help to Greenway when we first started in 1985, especially with our restaurant. She opened a lot of doors for us. We will always be grateful to June, and are glad we knew her. She was special.
The rest of the neighborhood is in good shape. Everyone is looking forward to seeing you this summer. We are all proud of the job Loren, Shawn, Robbie and Jo have done to bring back Shawl Bay (the Atom) to its glory. Edna would be so happy.ABOUT GREENWAYS FUTURE
Greenway has finally passed into safe, strong hands. Greenway, withTom & Ann, will be there for you, just as the Endowment Program envisioned. Greenway will become a Crown Jewel of boating destinations. Each and every one of you who have participated in the Endowment or invested in us can be proud.
A SPECIAL WORD TO THOSE who were there for us during some incredibly difficult times...Anns neck surgery, the Coho closure, investor pull-outs and about a dozen other simultaneous crises. You helped Greenway weather some very heavy seas. The timeliness and generosity of your support was absolutely pivotal. Without you, Greenway would be a fish farm. Thank you FROM ALL OF US.
Tom & Ann Taylor
