April 2001 - our 17th season A SEAL OF APPROVAL?!
Last fall, when everyone was gone, I walked out the South dock toward the airport dock with tools in hand to do something. Ann was inside. There was no one else around anywhere close. It was early evening. I heard loud snoring. Now, we have heard a lot of lifelike sounds from the wildlife around there over the years, but never snoring. However, this was real. I began to wonder if I was losing it. Maybe I'd been too long in the wilds of the North Country. Then I found the source.
A Stellar Sea Lion of immense proportions was floating blissfully into our U-shape docks, sound asleep. His nose was pointed straight to the sky, and his eyes were tightly closed. All of a sudden, he snorted and woke up, looked around, looked at me, and promptly dozed off again. He was at peace with his surroundings. Ann suggested that he must have given Greenway Sound Marine Resort a "Seal of approval".
ALL IS WELL AT Greenway Sound Marine Resort.
COME ON UP!
There is so much to see and discover. Greenway Sound Marine Resort is ready for you with all the services you have come to expect. Ann's health is good, and most of the staff from last year is returning. Also a couple of new ones are coming that we know you will like. We are expecting to have a very good year. It should be a lot of fun for everyone.Ann will have more help this year. Her fusion in her neck is working very well. She just had it checked. What an incredible operation that was. They did find when checking that some of the lower neck bones also have problems, so she has been advised to wear her collar part of the time. So if you see her with her collar on, it is OK.
SALMON FISHING SEASON IS CAUTIOUSLY OPTIMISTIC
There are some good signs for salmon fishing for this season. The very best source for information is www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca. That is Canada's Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Look for "Salmon Update." That is the official source of information. It looks like Coho salmon survival is improving slowly. Maybe we will be able to keep one or two. Decisions will be made in mid-May.Also, there is an interactive phone site that gives fishing information at 1-877-320-3467 or in Nanaimo at 1-250-741-9000.
FUEL PRICES HAVE GONE DOWN.
Fuel just went down 5 cents per litre. Last week, all of a sudden, in the midst of gloom and doom, the gas stations in Courtenay all dropped their prices, first 4 cents, then 5 cents per litre. Maybe things are not as bad as the media portrays! Canadian fuel could be cheaper that U. S. fuel, especially with the .64 exchange rate. Might be worth checking.THERE IS GREAT AIRPLANE NEWS!
We hope you will invite a guest or two to fly up to join you. You can also leave your boat with us and fly home for a while. Float planes are part of the fun of boating.
There is new airplane service this year to Greenway Sound Marine Resort from NW Seaplanes. Clyde Carlson, based at the Renton airport, has announced wonderful new service using "wheel Navajos and Caravans" (aircraft) from Renton to Campbell River Airport three times a day during the main boating season. Connections can be made to Greenway Sound Marine Resort on Air Rainbow. Same-day service from distant points such as California and Texas are now possible.
There is a flight from Renton that leaves at 11:30 AM, arriving at Greenway Sound Marine Resort at 4:30 PM. One could fly to Sea-Tac in the morning, and take a cab to Renton in time for that flight.
Southbound, one could leave Greenway Sound Marine Resort at 1:30 PM, arriving in Renton at 4:45 PM. There would be plenty of time to go up to Sea-Tac and take an early evening flight to lots of places. Check out www.nwseaplanes.com or 1-800-690-0086.

Vancouver to Greenway Sound Marine Resort connections are good this year. Vancouver, B.C. (YVR) airport offers connections that could be quite useful. For instance, there is a flight by Canadian Regional (AC1597) at 1:45 PM to Campbell River that connects with the 3:30 PM Air Rainbow flight to Greenway. This could be useful for those who could fly into Vancouver Internation Airport (YVR) in the morning. There are direct flights from Houston, Denver, New York, LA, etc., that would connect, making same-day service to and from Greenway Sound Marine Resort possible.
Vancouver locals will like the Pacific Coastal flight (8P 916) at 1:00 PM from the South Terminal where there is parking, which also connects with the 3:30 PM Air Rainbow or Vancouver Island Air to Greenway Sound Marine Resort. Southbound, the flights work just as well.
Check out the Greenway Sound Marine Resort website for all the flights: www.greenwaysound.com/aircon.htm
Greenway Sound Marine Resort has added a fourth telephone system for you.
Our location still challenges us all to provide telephone service. Our entire area has been plagued with no inward dialing on our once-proud EARS system. Many of us have had to put in alternate systems to try to stay in touch. So now, we have a total of four separate systems, on three technologies. Try 250-974-7044 first.Check the links to our neighbors and friends. They, too, will be glad to see you.
